IMRaD
The IMRaD organization technique closely mimics the style of writing in which lab reports are generally done. It is very different from a persuasive or argumentative paper in both the purpose and organization of the paper. The purpose of papers written with IMRaD format is simply to inform, there isn't an arguments section, there is simply what is done, why it was done (sometimes) and the implications of the results. In a persuasive or argumentative paper one must actually make a case and attempt to convince the reader. The paper is not exclusively facts. Additionally, argumentative papers may be organized in a variety of formats. IMRaD format is very standardized with headers for different sections of the paper.
